Short rant and solution. If like me you use Firefox (latest stable build from Ubuntu repository) and NoScript (disallows all JavaScript on all websites by default) the following situation is likely to occur.
So I wrote an email to the fine folks at The Malaysian Insider to raise the issue and if you can believe it, a real life non-automated human responded to my email on the very same evening, at night, and throughout the evening until a satisfying solution was found.
After thrashing out all possibilities, I received this very helpful reply:
Hello, Rewarp:
We have checked out the NoScript add-on and noticed that it doesn’t allow, unfortunately even after disabling (unless it’s uninstalled completely), the particular script which controls image loading for the “In case you missed these stories” thumbnails.
You can opt to visit our lite (http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/litee) and/or mobile (http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/mobile) versions which don’t have the script concerned and should not be affected by the NoScript add-on. Or, as you’ve pointed out, other browsers which don’t utilize such NoScript add-on work fine.
Thank you for reading The Malaysian Insider.
Regards,
Aaron Chai
